I can't believe we first shared this recipe back in January 2013! So much of life has happened since we started making this recipe that it is hard to wrap our minds around when we step back and take a moment to reflect.
Don't worry; I will not give you a six-year rundown of everything that has happened!
What is in Texas Roadhouse Butter
Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make honey butter. The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.
- Unsalted Butter: Leave it unrefrigerated for about 15 minutes to bring it to room temperature so that it’s easier to combine.
- Powdered Sugar: Confectioner’s sugar, which is finer than granulated sugar and often found in frostings, adds sweetness and texture.
- Honey
- Cinnamon
You can make this recipe dairy-free vegan by using vegan margarine and maple syrup. The flavor will be a little different.
Equipment needed make Texas Roadhouse Butter
Stand mixer or hand mixer - I quickly poured everything into our KitchenAid Mixer. The KitchenAid electric mixer made quick work of mixing this cinnamon honey butter recipes together. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl.
You can make this recipe in a large mixing bowl with a spatula but your arm may not be very happy with you by the time you get it all mixed together.
How to Make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Butter
I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.
- Combine all ingredients until thoroughly mixed with a fluffy consistency.
Preparation and Storage
Make Ahead + Storage: These four-ounce Mason jars make the perfect vessel for cinnamon butter and look adorable when serving it. We suggest storing it in an airtight container.
We keep it in the fridge for easy access, which helps it last about a week.
People say they leave it on the counter for softer and more spreadable butter, but I like having it in the refrigerator.
Freezing/How to Freeze: You may be surprised how well butter freezes! Land O Lakes says butter not mixed with oils (no margarine!) is safe to freeze for up to four months when stored in a freezer-safe container. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator or countertop for a few hours until soft enough to spread.
How to Reheat: Enjoy this cinnamon honey butter at room temperature or chilled in the fridge unless you add it to a cooked recipe.
Recipe Variations
Substitutions: I started with a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon and added more to taste. I like the flavor of cinnamon, so I added more than the written recipe recommended.
We have seen recipes that call for salted butter but we prefer this recipe without the additional salt.
Vegetarian + Vegan Option: This recipe is vegetarian-safe, but you can make it vegan with vegan margarine and maple syrup. The flavor will be a little different.
Gluten-Free: Some powdered sugar brands contain gluten-derived additives, so check the labeling on your package if you want to avoid gluten.
Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: This sweet, yummy, and spreadable homemade honey butter never lasts long in our household; scale the recipe up or down to your desired yield.
Make it Spicy: We haven’t seen a spicy version of this cinnamon honey butter, but you can make it sweeter by adding more honey and cinnamon, depending on the flavor you’d prefer to be front and center.
Sugar-Free: Use a sugar-free honey alternative (the real thing always contains sugar) and a powdered sugar alternative to make this recipe sugar-free.
