What is the best putty for Zimmerit? ›

Milliput Epoxy Putty is a good way to do Zimmerit. It takes over 30mins (for the 'normal' Milliput, not the 'super fine!) to become hard(ish) and can be worked easily with the help of various tools and water.

I recommend Zimm-it-rite as the best material for modelling Zimmerit. So, using putty, either Green Putty, Milliput or Zimm-it-rite, I recommend the use Zimm-it-rite however, follow the steps below to produce an authentic and in scale Zimmerit pattern.

Razor saws, Zimmerit stampers, Tamiya Zimmerit tools, Trumpeter Zimmerit tools etc of them can work fairly well. If time isn't a factor thin rolled Milliput Super Fine and a small screwdriver or stamper are the best of the best in my experience.

There was concern that the Allies would copy this weapon, so Zimmerit, a paste applied to German tanks and assault guns, was devised as a countermeasure. Although it was not fully anti-magnetic, the thickness of the paste and its patterned application was meant to reduce a magnet's ability to stick to the tank.
